Mental health is community health: Resilience across our communities
We are proud to be performing as part of the 40th annual Spirit of the Barrio luncheon hosted by Family Health Centers of San Diego! The Spirit of the Barrio luncheon builds awareness about FHCSD’s mission to provide high-quality healthcare to underserved communities across San Diego while presenting on a variety of themes to guests each year (as they enjoy FHCSD’s legednary tamales).
This year’s luncheon focus on mental health and its role in individual well-being, family stability and community resilience. There will be a panel of speakers featuring health care providers, advocates and community leaders working in mental and behavioral health. The speakers will discuss how trauma, stress and systemic inequities affect mental health, and how culturally responsive, community-based care can support healing, prevention and long-term wellness.
We feel a deep connection to this year’s luncheon theme, given transcenDANCE’s holistic approach to the arts and their connection to mental health, youth well-being, and community resilience. We’re excited to share adaptations of a few pieces performed by three of our alumni performers!
The event is open to the public and in addition to tamales and the panel, features regionally unique raffle and silent auction prizes.
