We’re very excited to continue our partnership with The New Children’s Museum this June! As part of the opening of the Saya Woolfalk Exhibition, our alumni will present a dance performance choreographed by dr. grace jun in a specially commissioned piece. The dance will interact with the installation, providing our alumni artists with an innovative and interdisciplinary creative opportunity.
Woolfalk’s installation is part of the broader theme at the Museum around "Science Fiction Creates the Future", anchored in the work of Octavia Butler and in artistic dialogue with the ongoing exhibition "Octavia E. Butler: Seeding Futures".
Saya Woolfalk is a New York based artist who uses science fiction and fantasy to re-imagine the world in multiple dimensions. With the multi year projects No Place, The Empathics, and ChimaTEK, Woolfalk has created the world of the Empathics, a fictional race of women who are able to alter their genetic make-up and fuse with plants. With each body of work, Woolfalk continues to build the narrative of these women's lives and questions the utopian possibilities of cultural hybridity.
